A second "Taunt"
I managed to successfully clear UP yesterday with the help of a friendly group (my first full run of a heroic ) and was fiddling around with some threat builds based on the experience.
I wanted to try out a build that takes either 2/3 Spiked collar or 2/2 Silverback. Now the obvious way to do that is either dropping taunt or charge, but I don't feel entirely comfortable with losing the taunt and charge is useful to have available.
So I devised a cunning plan with the following macro:
/petattack
/cast [target=player] master's call
/cast distracting shot
/cast deterrence
There is a small 1 sec overlap when distracting shot is still going but deterrence has worn off, time I recommend spent on disengaging or just feigning death. As far as I can see feigning while distracting is up just causes the mob to stare at you stupidly.
Of course it is not a true taunt with aggro reset, but it could potentially be useful for saving a healer or two. Incidentally I did not find threat a big issue during the run, but dps was quite low so suspect they were holding back a fair bit. I did learn to use Shell Shield at the start of pulls rather than waiting for "Oh %^%$" moments with it though.

Just theory here but soemthing i think is worth trying....
Taunt has a 3 min CD, or rather 2.1 mins with talents we'll all have. So taunt can be cast every 126 secs.
The second taunt on my mind is using distracting shot - followed by a deterrance.
The idea being that the boss would take a second or 2 to reach you - you could pop on Deterrence and let him swing away while your pet builds aggro - then when the 6 sec taunt of distract shot wears off the boss should be on the pet again.>>>>
Mentioned this ages ago...
I use it from time to time... when i actually get to tank something

Re: A second "Taunt"
Much obliged in that case I must have had it floating about in my subconscious since reading it, ready to burst forth at the first opportunity.
Using it in a single macro with master's call is new though Only a very little, but I was thinking of using more for AoE pulls to pick up loose mobs than on bosses as you suggested.
