Is it just me or what?

Ive noticed a lot in the last few months that now only has Hunter Tanking seem to have subsided but its almost not even talked about anymore. I know there are a lot of changes in Cata but from what I've seen none of them are too bad really. I mean we have a glyph to keep putting misdirect on our pet as many times as we need. I my self think that's a huge buff to tanking. So is there anyone else still out there that Hunter Tanks or am I and my bear & worm the only one left?

Well with there being a totally new expansion out, a lot of people have gotten into other things. Not to mention the fact that the hunter changes have made a lot of people move off to other things! Sadly.

For myself, I'm not as avid a tanker as I was, having to focus on other things like gearing up, but I can definitely say for sure that the changes have made tanking just as valuable as it was before. In fact, even moreso. Pets can take a lot of damage, I'm finding, and they can hold threat quite well. Combine that with the glyph for MD (remember: MD threat is temporary now so keeping it rolling is important) and you've got a real recipe for success! Now if only we could queue as tanks...

Shadowfang Keep-Silverlain. If you are in there as a hunter, pull out the pet tank! We wiped on that fight several times due to the adds, ended up me pulling out the Beetle, switching to tank spec, and LoS'ing the adds down the hallway with the tank holding them. Ridiculously easy to keep the pet up, I probably could have managed just alternating my CD's and mend.

But yea, with the mana deficiencies my healer loves me. Haven't tanked anything else, but it's definately been suggested when we're having issues on a boss. 50% bonus healing received is huge, couple that with Mend, 2 relatively short large damage reduction abilites, and some minor self heals, and any shortness we have due to lower health/armor than tanks atm is pretty much nullified. We also generate alright threat with KC. I had our 13k mage hold off a bit just to be safe but by the time I checked Omen it may not have been necessary.

Don't forget the pet's constant 90% reduction to AOE PvE damage and passive 85 elemental resistance before buffs and talents. Some of my pets have been outshining the tank in survivability on some bosses because of these two things. It's just the threat to keep an eye on.

Single target our threat's decent. I don't think we'll be able to tank any AoE fights without an offtank atm, but as long as it's tank and spank we stand a decent chance.

For me its been the three pronged assault of lack of personal time, gear grinding for me and my guildmates, and not having enough extra gear to make a dedicated pet tanking set. I've done a little bit of off tanking on heroic bosses when we first started running heroics, but haven't had the opportunity to main tank anything yet. Between heroics and reputation I'm starting to pick up extra heroic level gear to enchant and gem for tanking and the gearing push for my guildmates is starting to lesson, so hopefully we'll be back to our own fun and games soon.
