Tip when MDing to your pet

I sometimes do this with normal player tanks but do it often for when my pet tank is going against something hard. Cast MD. Wait until it's down to just a few seconds. Fire the MD shots. Spin up MD again. Fire a second round of MD shots. DPS normally.

MD has a 30sec cooldown and a 30sec duration. And it starts not when a shot is fired, but when it's applied.

This is similar to the old technique of chain-trapping, where the hunter would lay his trap and the raid/party would wait until the CD had ended, and another could be laid before pulling. It's very effective, but make sure that your party knows what you're doing so they don't get too jumpy before you've thrown your second MD.

Depends on what you're tanking really. With my super Stam heavy sets, I usually have the DPS wait at least 10 seconds before attacking even with a double MD start.

Durante, of course, and the discipline of the group. I'm just saying that when people see that MD goes up, they are very eager to just nuke their hearts out normally
